More and more travellers are directing their choices towards establishments with a strong commitment to sustainable tourism, and thus aimed at reducing their environmental footprint. Many Customer Satisfaction questionnaires also include questions on how much weight sustainability had in the choice and booking phase.

Sustainable tourism: an imjoint pledge

The effort to reduce the impact on the planet and resources has long been recognisable in the virtuous behaviour of hotels and resorts (both independent and chain):

  • more responsible handling of linen changes
  • greater customer involvement in saving water resources
  • a progressive reduction of plastics in favour of recyclable materials
  • the preference for local and seasonal products in catering
  • the use of renewable energy sources

The Ecolodges : concrete solutions for sustainable hospitality?

Environmental responsibility, far from being a fad or a trend, has found in the eco-lodge the concretisation of the hospitality-sustainability combination. The International Ecolodge Guidelines define it as: "a hospitality facility of 5 to 75 rooms, financially sustainable, built in a concern for harmony with nature and whose impact on the environment is therefore minimal."

A commitment certified by international eco-labels, such as Green Keyand leading to

  • favouring renewable sources
  • involving local communities, promoting their development
  • ensuring low consumption of resources (e.g. using rainwater)
  • limit waste production and encourage waste separation

to offer tourists an interactive and constructive experience.

The aim of eco-friendly accommodation (from B&B to five-star resort) is therefore, primarily, that of seamless integration into the environment. From the design phase to the production phase, in the operation as well as in the enjoyment of the services offered by customers, the same view of responsibility applies.

In this respect, too, Italy boasts a wide and varied offer of facilities, located between north and south in small mountain, lake and sea paradises. Enter to believe!
