Human resources, more than ever, are at the centre of the debate in the tourism industry at the start of the 2023 season. Especially after the exit from the pandemic, which had a devastating impact on employment.

There is no development without resources

While the sector is on the upswing and attendance figures in our country herald a real boom for this year, the shortage of personnel is beginning to make itself felt in a big way. Consequently, workers in every service category - from the beach resort to the luxury hotel - are starting to worry.

The delicate ecosystem of tourism is going through a phase of disharmony, caused mainly by a distorted perception that tourism is an industry of exploitation, not growth.

Exacerbating this perception is the fact that tourism professions do not know any holidays and often not even fixed hours. Above all, there is a lack of clear governance establishing fixed and valid rules throughout the country and also of controls by the authorities. Without rules and without constant controls, many operators do not respect contracts and aim for maximum savings in terms of human resources.

Human Resources at the heart of the project

This dangerous trend must be reversed in two steps

  1. involving public and private operators, national and local institutions, trade associations and trade unions (representing human capital)
  2. bringing them to a table to redefine the rules, control methods, fight against abuses and correct application of labour contracts in every sector and in every part of the country.
